To make sure your system is optimized for use with the software, ask yourself these questions about system and software settings:
CQG recommends this appearance and performance setting of Windows as per Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4002019/windows-10-improve-pc-performance. See “Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.”
1. Go to Start > Control Panel >System and Security > System > Advanced system settings
2. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
3. Go to the Advanced tab. In the Virtual memory section, click Change.
4. Select Custom size, and type 4555 in both the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size (MB) fields.
Restart your PC to activate these settings.
Hibernate and standby modes cannot be used on a system running the software. Hard drive power-saving features should also be disabled.
1. Go to Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options.
2. Click Change plan settings next to Balanced.
3. Set Put the computer to sleep to Never.
4. On that window, click Change advanced power settings.
5. Go to Hard disk > turn off hard disk after, and set it to Never. If there is a value there, click it and change to 0.
6. Go to Sleep > Sleep after, and set it to Never. If there is a value there, click it and change to 0.
Each open application draws on system resources, even if you are not using it. Applications that share the Internet connection can be especially problematic. Open applications are displayed on the status bar at the bottom of your screen. If you have several applications open, you may want to close some of them.
Memory space usage specifies a maximum memory amount that the software can use. This limit tells the system at what point unused data can be removed from memory. When this limit is reached, the system flushes any cached data that is currently not in use. To change the usage amount, go to Limits system preferences, and select a value up to 4095 MB.
Do you have one page stretched over multiple monitors instead of one page per monitor? Make sure title bar at the top of the software’s window isn’t stretched across two monitors. To resize the window, click and drag the corner of the window.
Note the number of open and minimized windows, and close any that are unnecessary. To see how many windows you have open, click the Window button on the software’s toolbar.
If you have the system set to recalculate on every tick, the recalculation uses a significant amount of processor capacity.
We recommend that you select Recalculate at first tick of bar and periodically in Recalc chart preferences.
Complex charts that include custom sessions and custom studies require additional system resources. If you are using complex charts, follow these optimization suggestions. Be aware that condition and trading system alerts use more resources than other alerts. You should turn off alerts that aren’t in use to cut down on CPU usage. If you are opening a continuation chart with the maximum compression settings, the display time may be affected.
